Become a Practice Champion

We are inviting people from the practice list and local community to give their time to the practice as ‘Practice Health Champions’.  Champions are people (usually patients at the practice) who voluntarily give their time to work alongside the staff team in a variety of ways.  This might include:

Helping meet the non-clinical needs of patients, for example isolation, loneliness or learning to cope and live well with a long term condition. Examples might be setting up a group for people who are newly diagnosed with a long term condition such as diabetes, or a coffee morning for people who might not get out much.

Helping the practice with activities such as flu clinics, patient surveys or other important priorities

Helping patients navigate the practice and find out about what else they can access in the local community and other services they can use.

People might give a few hours a week, or more, or less.  Champions will take part in a 2-day workshop at the start of the work and will then meet regularly with each other and the practice in order to get new ideas off the ground.

We would like to invite you to become a volunteer Practice Health Champion, working alongside us to make a difference to people’s lives. To register your interest, email altogether.better@swyt.nhs.uk by June 1st 2018.

Data Sharing (from 1st May 2018)

From May 1st 2018, your GP held health record will be made available to other healthcare professionals who use the SystmOne clinical computer system e.g. district nurses, community matrons, health visitors and podiatrists etc. For further information click here

From November 1st 2017, The Banks Medical Centre in Winton will be closed every Wednesday.

A normal telephone service will be in place and a full GP and Nursing service will operate from The Bearwood Medical Practice. We would like to reassure patients who normally attend The Banks Medical Centre that home visits will still be carried out for patients who have a genuine clinical need. On the day appointments will only be available at The Bearwood Medical Centre.

The Banks Medical Centre will not be open to patients on a Wednesday. Patients should take this into consideration when ordering prescriptions as they will be unable to pick up prescriptions from the surgery on a Wednesday. We would advise patients to make use of the Electronic Prescription Service which allows the prescriptions to be sent straight to the pharmacy of their choice. Please let reception staff know which pharmacy you would like to use. An on-line prescription request service is available via our website, please ask for details on how to register to use this service. Pharmacies can also order medications on a  patient’s behalf.

The decision to close our Winton branch on a Wednesday has not been taken lightly. In view of increasing patient demand and a shortage of GPs we have made the decision for operational reasons, to allow us to maintain the safest possible service for our patients given the resources available to us.

Care Quality Commission (CQC)

The Practice was inspected by the Care Quality Commission in April 2016 and found to be “Good” in all areas. We would like to thank all the patients who attended the Practice on the day of the inspection and provided their support. A full copy of the report can be accessed at the link below.
